- *Henry (Rachamim) Arouesty -m. Stella Azriel
[Stella's mother was Leah Azriel.]
Henry and Stella's daughter Lillie remembers:
Leah Azriel, was born in Dardanelles, Turkey and moved to Salonica, Greece, and then emigrated to the U.S. in 1920.
Stella met my father when he owned his own factory in Manhattan with his brother David, and she was only 14 years of age.
She worked for him after school to help support the family.
He waited for her to grow up and she married my dad when she was 21 and he was 26.
They went to Niagara Falls on their honeymoon, but stopped off in Rochester for a few days to visit Max and Freda who were unable to attend the wedding.
My father also spoke several languages.
He was a 2nd Lietenant in the Army during World War I and was a translator.
However, it was not the U.S. Army.
It was the French Army.
He went to a French school in Monastir, the Alliance Francais.
He came to America in 1919 after the war ended.
